Antique Silver Luster Glass, Circa 1870-1910
Silver Luster was the discovery of the Staffordshire potters. If real silver were used it would tarnish and the necessary polishing would soon wear it off. So Platinum was the metal used for the bright, untarnishing silver luster, a metal first known in 1750. The use of luster on buttons dates back to the middle of the 19th century, but extending into the 1900's with greater brilliance than the soft shades used in the 1800's. The result is unusually satisfying.
This Silver Luster button necklace is a sample of the necklace that will be made. Each necklace may differ slightly as each is crafted to compliment the individual button. The necklace featured is designed with a combination of clear Czechoslovakian crystals, small silver daisy spacers, and hematite beads.
All necklaces are 18" unless otherwise noted. All chain is Figaro style with an antique finish.
